Zion's Daily Electronic Devotions for Friday June 29, 2007

Yogi Berra

"The future ain't what it used to be."

Tomorrow was a constant source of worry for her. When she was promoted, she
worried that she could not perform up to her employer's expectations. When
her daughter got a scholarship to the University of Chicago she feared that
her daughter would not be able to keep it. Angela always waited for the
other shoe to drop. A good night's sleep was an unusual exception to the
rule of worry. She claimed that she suffered from insomnia, while it was
fear over what tomorrow would bring that nightly kept her mind from
embracing sleep.

One day as she drove to work, exhaustion finally won out and she fell asleep
at the wheel. The next thing she knew, she was at work but on the gurney in
the E.R. rather than as an admitting nurse. Worry had exhausted her and it
almost killed her. It had almost become a self-fulfilling prophecy. She
heard her pastor read the words of Psalm 121 verse 8 and she decided that
life did not hang upon her own strength and resources but upon a gracious
God who promised to keep a loving eye on her. Because her future was no
longer what it used to be, her today had the possibility for peace and
contentment.

Psalm 121:8

"The Lord will watch over your coming in and going out now and forever."
