Daily Devotion Friday March 16, 2007

I have for some time now thought to write a devotional book based upon the
introductory verses of each book of the Bible. This week walk with me as we
listen to the opening verses of some New Testament writings. pastor barry.

Romans 1:1-7

Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, set apart for the
gospel of God, which he promised beforehand through his prophets in the
holy scriptures, the gospel concerning his Son, who was descended from David
according to the flesh and was declared to be Son of God with power
according to the spirit of holiness by resurrection from the dead, Jesus
Christ our Lord, through whom we have received grace and apostleship to
bring about the obedience of faith among all the Gentiles for the sake of
his name, including yourselves who are called to belong to Jesus Christ. To
all God's beloved in Rome, who are called to be saints: Grace to you and
peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

In these few verses Paul captures all of the beauty, awe and mystery of
belonging to Jesus Christ. He refers to himself as a servant (in Greek the
word means slave) and one who has been set apart for a special purpose. He
refers to the Christians in Rome as beloved saints.

As you complete this day, may you be enslaved by the love of God and may you
believe that you are set apart for a special purpose by a God who calls you
"beloved." Wow!
